Joseph Wood has been inducted into international honor society

2014 Nov 21

Augustana has inducted 11 new members of Phi Beta Delta including Joseph Wood of North Henderson, Ill.

Augustana was granted the Zeta Upsilon chapter of Phi Beta Delta in 2007, and in that year inducted its first class of high-achieving students, faculty and administrators. To date, Augustana has inducted 59 students, faculty and administrators, and the 11 members of the class of 2014 will bring the number up to 70.

Dr. Allen Bertsche, director of international and off-campus programming, said, "Phi Beta Delta is a relatively new organization at Augustana, but it is rooted in the deeply valued tradition of study abroad and global education, which Augustana has always championed."

The Augustana chapter of Phi Beta Delta allows the college to formally recognize the faculty and administrators who help provide outstanding international education opportunities to our students, and the students who maximize all that Augustana has to offer to become globally informed and engaged.

In 2009 Augustana launched Augie Choice, a program that provides all students up to $2,000 to support a qualifying hands-on learning experience of their choice, such as international study, research or an internship during their junior or senior year.
