Veronica Smith Honored with National Award

Two Augustana College seniors were honored with an award from the national organization, Sigma Alpha Iota. Samantha Tyner received the Scholastic Award and Veronica Smith received the Collegiate Honor Award.

Veronica Smith, a senior from Plano, Ill., majoring in art history, environmental studies, and art.

Both students will be recognized at the Augustana Music Department Gala on Friday, May 11, at 5:30 p.m.

The Scholastic Award is presented to the graduating senior with the highest GPA. The SAI Collegiate Honor Award goes to a graduating senior who has exhibited outstanding musicianship, scholarship, and service to the College, Music Department and to the Fraternity. The Collegiate Honor Award is chosen by Dr. Jon Hurty, professor of music and director of choral programs, and Dr. Dan Culver, professor of music and conductor of the Augustana College Symphony Orchestra.

"Both of these women have made extraordinary contributions to the Augustana chapter of SAI," said SAI advisor Rita Gustafson. "They will be truly missed."

Sigma Alpha Iota is an international music fraternity for women. Augustana's Delta Tau chapter was chartered in 1965 and currerntly has 67 members.
