Founded in 1860, Augustana College is a selective four-year residential college of the liberal arts and sciences. Augustana is recognized for the innovative program Augie Choice, which provides each student up to $2,000 to pursue a high-impact learning experience such as study abroad, an internship or research with a professor. Current students and alumni include 165 Academic All-Americans, two Nobel laureates, 13 college presidents and other distinguished leaders. The Augustana Flute and Clarinet Choirs perform spring concert

The Augustana Flute and Clarinet Choirs performed a spring concert together, "The Sounds of Spring," on Wednesday, May 4 in Wallenberg Hall. Selections included "Dance of the Cygnets" from "Swan Lake" by P.I. Tchaikovsky, among others. The choirs were directed by Janet Stodd and Susan Schwaegler.

Several seniors performed together in their final recital on Sunday, May 8 in Wallenberg Hall. Selections included "Send in the Clowns" from "A Little Night Music" by Stephen Sondheim, among others. This performance was a perfect representation of all of the hard work and dedication these seniors have put into their music throughout their time at Augustana.

Augustana Symphony Orchestra performed concert

The Augustana Symphony Orchestra performed a concert on Saturday, April 30 in Centennial Hall. The orchestra was conducted by Daniel Culver as one of his final concerts before retirement after over 40 years of service. The ensemble was joined by the following guests: Jenny Lind Vocal Ensemble, conductor Michael Zemek, soprano Sangeetha Rayapati, and tenor Aaron Humble.

Selections from the recital included "Chanson d'avril" by George Bizet among others. The students were accompanied by Sheila Doak on piano, Emma Stough and Kayla Jackson on flute, and tenor Jacob Weidner.

Augustana College Theatre Department concludes its 2015-2016 mainstage season with "Sweeney Todd"

Augustana College Theatre Arts Department in conjunction with Opera@Augustana will present Sweeney Todd, music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by Hugh Wheeler, in Potter Theatre April 29-May 1 and May 6-8. Sweeney Todd will be the last production in Potter Theatre prior to the move to the new Brunner Theatre Center.

This year's Play Production class will stage the drama "Gross Indecency," about Oscar Wilde's trials on charges of sodomy. The production is the student-directed culmination with performances taking place March 18-20 in Bergendoff Hall's Black Box Theatre.

To conclude their Midwest tour, the Augustana Symphonic band will return home to perform the music they traveled with on their annual performance tour. The concert will take place on March 12 at 8 p.m. in Centennial Hall.

Augustana students participated in gripping theatre production of 'Machinal'

The Augustana theatre season's theme of Crime and Justice was fully present in this powerful expressionistic drama about a young woman in the 1920s, whose limitations and restrictions ultimately pushed her to commit a horrible crime. Machinal, which means "automatic" or "mechanical" in French, is based loosely on the murder trial of Ruth Snyder and her lover. This show was presented in Potter Theatre within Bergendoff Hall of Fine Arts (3701 7th Avenue) on October 16, 17, 23 and 24 at 7:30 p.m. and October 18 and 25 at 1:30 p.m.
