Along with geology professors Dr. Michael Wolf and Dr. Jenny Arkle, Augustana seniors conducted baseline video surveys of the reefs to monitor coral disease and decline in Bonaire.

Eighty-one Augustana College students were recognized at the Office of Career Development and Vocation's annual Viking Score Banquet on May 8.

Two Augustana College seniors received the Academic Achievement Award sponsored by the Rock Island Rotary Club at their 50th Annual Awards Luncheon on April 23.

Augustana College students joined officials on April 17 at the Illinois Section of the American Water Association industry conference in Peoria to present research from the college's water line inventory project. The multi-faceted project included community outreach, GIS and equitable finance planning.

Six Augustana College students attended the Illinois Section of the Mathematical Association of America regional meeting on March 15-16. Students Jessica Cotturone and Ngoc Le presented their research conducted with Dr. Andrew Sward as part of the Beling Scholars Program.

James Caprio '24, Jalane Tsague '25, Sally Boutaleb '24 and Genevieve Ryan '26 represented Augustana at the 31st annual National Character and Leadership Symposium (NCLS) at the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA). NCLS is an annual two-day symposium in which participants hear distinguished scholars, military leaders, corporate executives and world-class athletes share their inspirational stories of character and leadership. Augustana sends four students to attend the event each year.

Sixteen first-year Augustana College students visited spectacular sites and spent nights camping in the mountains of Wyoming and South Dakota on the annual Geology 105 field trip titled, "The Physical Geology of the Rockies." Students traveled from Aug. 4 to Aug. 20 before starting their academic year.

Four Augustana College students majoring in women, gender, & sexuality studies presented in the Frieze Lecture series titled, "Feminism: From Basics to Barbie," on Oct. 19 at the downtown location of the Rock Island Public Library.

The Augustana Observer was named the top student news organization in the state by Illinois College Press Association for 2023. Competing in the most competitive class, based on college enrollment size, the Observer took home first place for general excellence. This is the second time in three years the Observer has earned the award. In all, the paper earned 14 awards at the state convention.

Eight Augustana College geology majors presented earth science concepts on Oct. 11 at Moline Public Library's Fossil Day Program.

Nineteen Augustana College students recently completed SCUBA certification, with many planning to put their new skills to work during a Janaury Geology course in the Caribbean, diving in the topical waters and reefs of Bonaire.

Thirty Augustana College students hosted public health focus groups at the school's fall Symposium Day, Oct. 11.

Twelve Augustana College students have been selected as ALIVE fellows for the 2023-2024 year. ALIVE, Augustana Leaders in Vocational Exploration, is a residential program that provides weekly discussions prompting fellows to discuss life-long work and live-giving relationships to which they feel called.

Augustana College selected 40 students to serve as honored student delegates at the Oct. 15 inauguration ceremony of Andrea Kathryn Talentino. The students, selected from many different organizations and departments across campus for their leadership roles, were chosen by facutly, staff and administrators. The student delegates received special seating during the ceremony that was held on the quad of the Rock Island campus.

Eight Augustana students are the recipients of the Excellence in the Liberal Arts Award, which provides students with $400-$4,000 for international study or summer programs in the humanities. The purpose of this award is to reward excellence in the liberal arts, including student academic achievement, amount of scholarly work done in the liberal arts including the humanities, achievement in co-curricular programs, and leadership and service both on and off-campus.

For an undergrad, declaring your major in college is a milestone event. For the first time ever, 10 Augustana students have officially declared majors in data analytics, along with 40 students declaring minors. Dr. Marty Coe, chair of the new data analytics department, along with President of the College Steve Bahls and 10 students, officially launched Augustana's new data analytics academic program-in a way that is typically reserved for athletes on National Signing Day.

Augustana senior Adam Gronewold was honored with the Abraham Lincoln Civic Engagement Award Nov. 17 in Springfield, making him a student laureate of the Lincoln Academy of Illinois. The awards are presented for excellence in curricular and extracurricular activities to seniors from each of the state's four-year, degree-granting colleges and universities, and one student from the community colleges in Illinois. Each winner receives a Lincoln Academy Student Laureate Medallion, a certificate of achievement and $1,000.

For three days, five Augustana College women joined students from Swarthmore, Smith, Tulane, Penn State and Yale to meet and learn from female leaders making and influencing public policy at the highest levels in Congress, the courts, the private sector, policy research and advocacy organizations, and the media.

Augustana College is pleased to share four students have been nominated by faculty to attend the National Character and Leadership Symposium in February 2018. The annual National Character and Leadership Symposium, one of the premier national symposia in the field of character and leadership, brings together distinguished scholars, military leaders, corporate leaders, world-class athletes, and others to explore a character-related theme based on the United States Air Forces Academy Outcomes. This two-day symposium provides an opportunity for all Academy personnel, visiting university students and faculty, and community members to experience dynamic speakers and take part in group discussions to enhance their own understanding of the importance of sound moral character and good leadership.

The staff members of Augustana College's student newspaper, Augustana Observer, won 19 awards at the Illinois College Press Association convention Feb. 20-21, breaking the school record they set last year of 18 awards..

Augustana student Nate Wendt of Geneva, Ill. worked with Dr. Chris Strunk, assistant professor of geography, to create a video for the Rock Island Urban Gardeners explaining the reason and benefit of urban gardening.

Augustana's EDGE Center is helping students develop entrepreneurial skills. This professional edge includes valuable experience and a portfolio collection of their significant work which can set them apart when applying for jobs or graduate schools.

Eleanor Nolan '16 of Northbrook, Ill., has been sponsored by The American Association of University Women (AAUW) to attend the National Conference for College Women Student Leaders (NCCWSL) at the University of Maryland from May 28-30, 2015.

The staff of the Augustana Observer, the student newspaper, received 13 awards during the Illinois Collegiate Press Association's annual meeting in Chicago in February.
