Founded in 1860, Augustana College is a selective four-year residential college of the liberal arts and sciences. Augustana is recognized for the innovative program Augie Choice, which provides each student up to $2,000 to pursue a high-impact learning experience such as study abroad, an internship or research with a professor. Current students and alumni include 165 Academic All-Americans, two Nobel laureates, 13 college presidents and other distinguished leaders. Augustana Eddie Mabry Diversity Award Winners

Augustana College awarded six students the 2015 Eddie Mabry Diversity Award. The Eddie Mabry award recognizes academic work by dedicated students who have demonstrated a significant commitment to enhancing multicultural awareness at Augustana. Submissions included works that explore issues related to diversity and multiculturalism such as social class, culture, race/ethnicity, sex/gender, sexuality, disability and religion.

Augustana students performed in voice seminar

Sixteen Augustana students performed in a voice seminar on Tuesday, April 28 in Wallenberg Hall. Selections included "The Sky Above the Roof" by Ralph Vaughan Williams, sung by mezzo soprano Sara Naftzger, and Stephen Sondheim's "Green Finch and Linnet Bird" from Sweeney Todd, sung by soprano Victoria Beale. Students were accompanied by Michelle Crouch, Sheila Doak, Howard Eckdahl and Justin Lebo on piano.

Scott Reynolds performed recital at Augustana College

Augustana senior, Scott Reynolds, an instrumental music education major of Elgin, Ill., performed a student recital on Friday, April 24 in Wallenberg Hall. He performed Aaron Copland's "Concerto for Clarinet" and "Clarinet Sonata in F minor, Op. 120 No. 1" by Johannes Brahms, among others. He was accompanied by Mary Neil on piano.

Every year graduating studio art and graphic design students create and display a collection of original art. This year twenty students created unique collections that were displayed in the Augustana Teaching Museum of art from April 24 to May 24.

Recital performed by Augustana College students

Augustana seniors Elizabeth Lundine, an instrumental music education major of Villa Park, Ill. and Lorraine Stamberger, a geography and environmental studies major of La Moille, Ill. performed in their student recital on Sunday, April 26, 2015 in Wallenberg Hall. Their selections included Ludwig van Beethoven's "Sonaten in G Major für Klavier und Violine Op. 30, Nr. 3" and "Zwei Konzertetüden, S.145" by Franz Liszt. Lundine played violin, Stamberger played violin and they were accompanied by Mary Neil on piano.

Augustana Chamber Singers Spring Concert

The Augustana Chamber Singers performed their spring concert on Sunday, April 19 in Wallenberg Hall. Seventeen student musicians shared their talent with the Augustana community. Selections included "Dobbin's Flowery Vale" arranged by Rachel Lindley and "World of Sports" by Anders Edenroth, among others. This performance was in conjunction with the Wennerberg Men's Chorus Festival with Matt Oltman which was made possible by the generous support from the Meredith Foundation.

Nathan Payne performed recital at Augustana College

Augustana sophomore, Nathan Payne, an English major of Ottumwa, Iowa, performed a student piano recital on Saturday, April 18 in Wallenberg Hall. He performed Frederic Chopin's "Scherzo No. 3 in C-sharp minor, Op. 39" and "Three Intermezzi, Op. 117" by Johannes Brahms, among others.

Augustana students performed in student recital

Six Augustana students performed in a general student recital on Tuesday, April 21 in Wallenberg Hall. Each student performed one or two pieces by the same composer. Selections included Franz Josef Haydn's "Divertimento", played by cellist Paige Phelps and "Fantasia para un Gentilhombre" by Joaquim Rodrigo, played by flutist Emily Haskins, among others. Students were accompanied by Sheila Doak, Mary Neil, Justin Lebo and Brian Hinckley on piano.

Wennerberg Men's Festival Chorus

The Wennerberg Men's Festival Chorus participated in a four day workshop with guest conductor Matt Oltman. The final performance was on Sunday, April 19 in Wallenberg Hall. Over forty men from Wennerberg Men's Chorus, Augustana Choir, the Handel Oratorio Society, local high schools, and the surrounding community participated in the festival. Selections included "Ave Maria" by Franz Biebl and "Die Rose stand imm Tau" by Robert Shumann, among others. The festival was made possible by the generous support of the Meredith Foundation.

Student named to Augustana College winter term Dean's List

Augustana College announced 856 students were named to the Dean's List for the 2014-2015 winter term. Students who have earned this academic honor have maintained a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher on a four-point scale for courses taken during the term.

Saladin wins fellowship for archaeological dig in Tuscany

Junior Chris Saladin has been accepted at the Poggio Civitate archaeological field school in central inland Tuscany. He will be working this summer near the Commune of Murlo, about 55 miles south of Florence.

Augustana students performed in voice seminar

Six Augustana students performed in a voice seminar on Tuesday, March 31 in Wallenberg Hall. Each student performed one or two pieces by the same composer. Selections included George Frederic Handel's "But Who May Abide the Day of His Coming" from Messiah, sung by counter tenor John Whitson, and "Come Away, Death" by Roger Quilter, sung by bass-baritone Philip Corrado. Students were accompanied by Sheila Doak and Michelle Crough on piano.

Augustana senior, Silvia Ramirez-Bertolasi, a vocal music performance major of Arlington Heights, Ill., performed her senior recital on Saturday, March 28 at 4 p.m. in Wallenberg Hall. She performed Franz Schubert's "Der Hirt auf dem Felsen" and "Rejoice Greatly, O Daughter of Zion" from George F. Handel's "Messiah", among others. She was accompanied by Scott Reynolds on clarinet and Mary Neil on piano.

The Augustana Flute Choir performed a St. Patrick's Day Concert on Tuesday, March 17 in Wallenberg Hall. Ten student musicians shared their talents with the Augustana community, helping to celebrate this holiday. Selections included Jonathen Cohen's "Piccolos in the Pub" and David Bailey's "A Lively Irish Medley" among others.

Augustana senior, Jens Hurty, a vocal music performance major of Moline, Ill., performed his senior recital on Saturday, March 21 in Wallenberg Hall. He performed "The Song that Goes Like This" from Monty Python's Spamalot by John De Prez and Eric Idle and Johann Sebastian Bach's "Mache dich, mein Herze, rein" from Matthaus-Passion, among others. He was accompanied by Robert Elfline on piano and Kelsey Schauer, a mezzo-soprano.

Augustana junior Rebecca Andersen, a vocal music education major of Woodstock, Ill. and senior Christine Nyquist, a general music major of Rockford, Ill. performed in their student recital sharing their talents with the Augustana community on Saturday, March 21, 2015. Andersen's selections included" Immer leiser wird mein Schlummer" and "Meine Liebe ist grün" by Johannes Brahms. Nyquist performed Franz Schubert's "Hymne an die Jungfrau" and "Seligkeit". Additional pieces as well as duets were performed. The students were accompanied by Sheila Doak on piano and Sarah Bromberger on oboe.

Augustana Symphonic Band performed home concert upon return from southern United States

The Augustana Symphonic Band returned from its tour to Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana and Illinois and performed the Home Concert on Saturday, March 14 at 8 p.m. in Centennial Hall. The audience of family members, friends and many alumni welcomed the band home after their 2,600 mile journey.

He performed Alessandro Scarlatti's "Speranze mie" and Gustav Mahler's "Ich atmet' einen linden Duft". He was accompanied by Robert Elfline on piano.

Augustana junior, Henry Weberpal, a cello performance major of Sycamore, Ill., performed his junior recital on Saturday, March 14 in Wallenberg Hall. He performed David Popper's "Requiem, Op. 66" and Beethoven's "Sonata in C Major, Op. 102 No. 1" among others. He was accompanied by Sheila Doak and Rebecca Strandberg on piano and Patrick Yasutake and Paige Phelps on cello.
